This version of the tournament was held in Chile, between October 12 and November 3, 1926, being the second time that Chile organized this event after the championship held in 1920.The absence of Brazil, due to problems in its confederation, constituted a sensitive loss without a doubt, but Bolivia participated for the first time, a team that despite not having a high level, would become an always uncomfortable rival for its opponents in the Copa América . Uruguay attended with their high-level football and their sights were set on maintaining their best performance for the 1928 Olympic Games. Time was lacking, but the Charrúa did not want to leave anything to chance. The Bolivians' debut was disastrous. Chile scored a whopping seven goals, making it clear that the Copa América always charged its debutants. Argentina got off to an impressive start. In his first two meetings he dispatched Bolivia and Paraguay, scoring 13 goals without conceding any against. Uruguay, for its part, beat the host on its debut, in a meeting in which doubts remained about the power of the Olympic champions. All doubts were cleared very soon. In their second match, Uruguay faced Argentina, who was playing their third match. Two to zero in favor of the Orientals and the Cola was almost ready for them. The following days passed with the interest of seeing if Chile, having the best performance so far, managed to snatch second place from Argentina. Tie between these two rivals sentenced the tournament.
