Cairns Casino Hotel Logbook

An independent guide to The Reef Hotel Casino — rooms, reef days and rainforest days, checked against what the hotel and public bodies publish.

The rooftop pool, the sauna and the gym

Three facilities, few published details. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and the public lagoon a short walk away for days when you want a bigger swim.

The rooftop pool

The hotel lists a rooftop swimming pool among its facilities, and Accor repeats it. The pool deck appears in the hotel's event pages too, where it is offered for buffets and food stations with views across Trinity Inlet, Mount Yarrabah and the Nisbet Range. That tells you two useful things: the deck faces the water side, and on some evenings part of it may be booked for a function.

Opening hours, depth and whether the pool is heated are not published on the pages we read. The pool was upgraded during the two-year refit that ended with the Pullman launch, according to a trade report from January 2009.

Sauna and gymnasium

The hotel names a sauna and a gymnasium. Accor's listing describes the fitness centre with running, cycling and rowing machines. No class timetable, trainer or opening hours appear on either page.

A spa?

We found no day spa or treatment menu on the hotel's own pages or on Accor's. The spa you will use is the one in your room: every room has a spa bath, and the suites have double or oversized ones.

The Esplanade Lagoon nearby

For laps or a long swim with children, the city's free saltwater lagoon on the Esplanade is a few minutes' walk. Cairns Regional Council describes a 4,800 m² lagoon watched by lifeguards, open Thursday to Tuesday from 6 am to 9 pm and on Wednesdays from noon to 9 pm, after weekly maintenance. Every two years it closes for several weeks of maintenance, so check the council's notices before planning around it. More on the Around Wharf Street page.

Sea swimming

Swimming in the sea off northern Queensland during the warmer months carries a marine stinger risk. Read the seasons page before planning a beach day.

Room request desk · The Reef Hotel Casino, Cairns

Ask our desk for a room at The Reef Hotel Casino

Give us your dates and the room you have in mind. The booking desk of this site — not the hotel — reads each request, checks availability and the current rate with the hotel's reservations team or with a booking partner, and answers by email. No card details are asked for here, and a request is not yet a booking.

How this desk is paid: when a request sent from this site turns into a confirmed stay, the hotel or the booking partner that completes the reservation pays us a commission. Asking costs you nothing extra. How this site earns.

Thank you — your request is with our desk. We check availability and the rate with the hotel's reservations team or our booking partner and reply by email, usually within one business day. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged until you say yes.
