The Gambling Helpline on 1800 858 858 is funded by the Queensland Government and answers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is for people who gamble and for their families and friends. Gambling Help Online offers chat and email support.

Self-exclusion in Queensland

Queensland lets you ban yourself from gaming venues. Under the state's patron-initiated exclusion, you give a venue a notice (form 3A) and it issues an exclusion order (form 3B). An order lasts five years and, apart from a 24-hour cooling-off period, cannot be revoked in its first twelve months. Gambling Help Queensland can arrange exclusion from up to 30 venues at once, without you visiting each one. Details are on Business Queensland and Gambling Help Queensland.

At The Reef Hotel Casino

The casino admits adults only and says it supports safer gambling. Its safer-gambling page offers an assistance program brochure, an informed-decision brochure and its harm-minimisation policy, and points guests to the Gambling Helpline. Leaving children unattended is prohibited and can lead to exclusion and prosecution.

Signs it may be time to stop

• Spending more time or money than you planned, or chasing losses.
• Borrowing, or hiding gambling from people close to you.
• Feeling anxious, low or irritable when you are not gambling.

Any one of these is reason enough to call. You do not need to be in crisis.
